Tottenham could reignite interest in signing Real Madrid man – report
Tottenham could reignite their interest in Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic, say reports
Tottenham Hotspur could be set to reignite their interest in signing Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid this summer, according to reports in the British media.
Metro is claiming that the Lilywhites could be set to step up their pursuit of the Croatia international after he admitted that he is keen on leaving the Bernabeu this summer.
The same report says that Tottenham are long-term admirers of Kovacic and had a bid to sign him rejected by Real Madrid last summer.
According to the same article, Kovacic has a €50m (£44m) release clause in his contract at the Bernabeu, and he is now keen on a move away from Real Madrid.
Kovacic told Spanish newspaper Marca, as quoted by the same article: “I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid.
“I love football and being on the pitch, I want the opportunity to be a starter for another team. If I do not play, I’m not happy.”
Tottenham are believed to be on the hunt for a number of new signings this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to assemble a team capable of winning the Premier League next season.
The Lilywhites were in fine form last term but they ended up in third place in the Premier League table.
They also reached the FA Cup semi-finals but were beaten by Manchester United, leaving them still searching for their first trophy under Pochettino.
