Tottenham set to rival Arsenal for World Cup winner’s signature – report
Arsenal and Tottenham will battle it out for Mario Gotze's signature this summer, according to a report
Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle it out with Arsenal to sign Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to a report in England.
Website Football.London is reporting that Arsenal face competition from their bitter London rivals Tottenham for Gotze’s signature.
The Gunners emerged as contenders to sign the World Cup winner earlier this week amid reports Gotze will leave Dortmund just 12 months after his return to Westfalenstadion.
The same article states that Spurs have held a long-term interest in the 26-year-old playmaker and are keeping tabs on his situation in the current transfer window.
Speculation in the British media has suggested that Gotze could be available for as little as £18m in the summer transfer window, which would represent a bargain given his experience.
Liverpool FC have also been linked with a potential interest in Gotze after Jurgen Klopp worked with the playmaker at Borussia Dortmund before his controversial move to Bayern Munich in 2014.
Gotze has won five Bundesliga titles, four German Cups and a Champions League runners-up medal.
The German star returned to Dortmund from Bayern last summer but he scored a mere two goals in 32 games in the Bundesliga.
Tottenham finished above Arsenal in the Premier League table last term.
