Manchester United announced that they had agreed a deal to bring the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder to Old Trafford as they began their summer recruitment drive.
The 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the days leading up to the official confirmation, and Fred will now prepare to link up with his new Manchester United team-mates later this summer.
Willian knows Fred well from their time spent on international duty with Brazil, and the Chelsea FC star has opened up about the pair’s conversation about the move to Old Trafford.
Willian is quoted as saying by Metro: “He is very happy to come to the Premier League to play. We talked a little bit about that.
“He is excited to start but now is the time to think about the World Cup. I think he is very happy but now it is time to think about national team.”
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of other signings this summer as they bid to try and challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils finished second and 19 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table last season and missed out on a trophy when they were beaten by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last month.
