Stephan Lichtsteiner is thrilled to become an Arsenal player ahead of his first Premier League season
Stephan Lichtsteiner has sent a lengthy message to Arsenal supporters after he officially became a Gunners player on Monday.
The Switzerland international was announced as Unai Emery’s first signing as Arsenal boss last month but Lichtsteiner didn’t become a Gunners player until his Juventus deal expired on 1 July.
The 34-year-old will be tasked with improving Arsenal’s leaky defence under their new Spanish head coach next term and Lichtsteiner will battle with Spanish full-back Hector Bellerin for a starting spot.
The Swiss captain comes with a wealth of experience after the defender won seven Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia crowns during his stint at the Italian giants.
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive campaign.
However, Lichtsteiner is determined to help Arsenal have a successful 2018-19 campaign following his move to the north London side.
Lichtsteiner wrote on his Instagram page:
Arsenal have also signed German goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal from Bayer Leverkusen last month to provide Petr Cech and David Ospina with competition for a starting spot.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
