Nigel Winterburn has issued his backing for new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

The Gunners appointed the Spanish head coach as their new manager following Arsene Wenger’s exit last month.

Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive season.

The north London side will be hoping that the former Sevilla and Valencia manager Emery can restore the Gunners to the top four.

Arsenal have already signed Juventus’ Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bayer Leverkusen shot stopper Bernd Leno.

The Gunners have also been linked with a move to sign Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Former Arsenal star Winterburn believes the Gunners are in good hands with Emery at the helm.

“I like what I am seeing so far,” Winterburn told the Transfer Talk podcast. “I like a manager who has his own ideas but can be flexible.”

Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last season following a difficult final campaign under Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals to miss out on a first European trophy under Wenger.
