Unai Emery: What I really think about Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal
Unai Emery opens up about Aaron Ramsey's situation at Arsenal this summer
Unai Emery has described Aaron Ramsey as an important player for Arsenal following his appointment as the club’s new manager.
Emery has been getting to grips with life at The Emirates after he was brought in as Arsene Wenger’s successor at the north London club this summer.
The Gunners have already been busy in the summer transfer window after bringing in four new players to bolster their squad ahead of Emery’s first campaign at the club.
Ramsey’s situation has been something of a source of speculation this summer, as his current contract with the Gunners is set to expire at the end of next season.
Arsenal are likely to want to tie the Wales international down to a new contract or sell him this summer, rather than risk losing him for nothing in a year’s time.
And Emery has indicated that he clearly wants to see Ramsey sign a new contract and stay at The Emirates.
Asked why Ramsey has not signed a new deal with Arsenal, Emery told a news conference on Thursday: “This is one question for the player and for the club.
“In my opinion, I’ve said to Ivan [Gazidis], Raul [Sanllehi] and Sven [Mislintat] that I think he’s an important player for me.
“I’m very happy with him. For me, every day, every training session, he has the ambition I want.
“He’s working with a quality, the type of ability that I want. I want to work with him.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be looking to at least break back into the top four next season after they finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
