Quality 22-year-old’s father confirms Arsenal transfer is on
Arsenal are on the brink of completing a deal to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, according to his father
Arsenal are on the verge of signing Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria this summer, but the deal is likely to be postponed until after the World Cup, according to the player’s father.
The north London side have been strongly linked with a move to bring the 22-year-old midfielder to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
However, the move has not yet gone through because the midfielder is currently on international duty at the World Cup in Russia with Uruguay.
Now, the player’s father has all but confirmed that a deal for Torreira to move to Arsenal is virtually done, but it will not be completed before his involvement in the World Cup is over.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Torreira’s father said: “There are many clubs who contacted us but we have given our word to Arsenal and are very satisfied with what they offered.
“The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining.
“Arsenal offered to do the medical examinations in Russia but we decided against it because we felt it’s inconvenient, it is not the right time.”
Arsenal are believed to still be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Emery looks to build a squad at least capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
The north London side finished in sixth place and without a trophy in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge at The Emirates last season.
