BBC reporter: Arsenal will complete next signing after World Cup
David Ornstein gives the latest news on Arsenal's reported pursuit of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira
Arsenal will look to complete a deal to sign Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira after Uruguay’s involvement in the World Cup is over, according to BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein.
The north London side have been strongly linked with a move to bring the 22-year-old midfielder to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
Emery’s side confirmed their second official signing of the summer last week when they tied up a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
The north London club are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new recruits this summer and Torreira is widely expected to be the Gunners’ next signing.
And BBC Sport reporter Ornstein has delivered the latest update on the link to Torreira, along with a host of other potential transfer dealing at The Emirates.
Ornstein wrote on Twitter: “Arsenal hopeful of agreement with Sampdoria for Torreira but nothing signed, no player agreement/medical – decided once #URU finish #WorldCup + if doesn’t happen #AFC will look elsewhere (not Banega).
“Wilshere still exploring options – nothing close.”
Arsenal will be looking to at least try and break back into the top four next season after the Gunners finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season.
The north London side have not won the Premier League since 2004.
