Unai Emery personally persuaded Matteo Guendouzi to sign for Arsenal ahead of some other top European clubs this summer, according to reports in France.

French newspaper L’Equipe, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the new Arsenal manager has had a key role in convincing the 19-year-old to move to The Emirates this summer.

The same report says that Guendouzi was due to undergo a medical with Arsenal ahead of his proposed move from Lorient this week.

The article claims that Emery stepped in to try and convince the teenager to move to The Emirates this summer ahead of the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

The same story says that the teenager is poised to sign a four-year contract with Arsenal with the option for a further year.

Arsenal are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as the Gunners look to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League title.

The north London side finished in sixth place in the Premier League under Arsene Wenger last term as they missed out on Champions League qualification for the second season running.

Arsenal have not won the title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2003-04.
