Mesut Ozil looked to be in high spirits after linking up with the Arsenal squad for their pre-season trip to Singapore.

The Germany playmaker had been granted an extended summer holiday following his involvement in the World Cup with his national team, although Joachim Low’s men were knocked out in the group stage.

Ozil announced his retirement from international football over the weekend and has since travelled to Singapore to begin life under new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

And the 29-year-old seemed to be in good shape as he prepared himself for his first training session under the new man in charge at The Emirates.

Emery was appointed as the club’s new manager back in May after Arsene Wenger opted to call time on his 22-year career with the Gunners.

The Spanish manager has been tasked with steering the north London side back into the top four next season after they ended up in sixth place and without a trophy last term.

Ozil, who signed a new contract with Arsenal back in February, will be aiming to establish himself as one of the key players under Emery next season.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
