Arsenal star delivers concrete update on his future
Petr Cech confirms that Napoli were interested in signing him this summer, but says he wants to stay at Arsenal
Petr Cech has revealed that Napoli were interested in a deal to sign him this summer, but insists that his future is at Arsenal.
The Gunners shot-stopper’s future has been something of a source of uncertainty recently following the appointment of Unai Emery as the club’s new manager this summer.
The veteran goalkeeper’s situation has been cast into further doubt after the north London side tied up a deal to bring Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen last month.
Napoli had been credited with an interest in bringing Cech to Serie A this summer, but the veteran shot-stopper has now insisted that his future is at Arsenal.
Cech is quoted as saying by Calciomercato: “Napoli were interested in me, but my future is at Arsenal and I do not think about changing clubs.
“I still have a year of my contract with Arsenal, the only thing I want to think about is fighting for a starting position.”
Emery is still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer ahead of his first campaign in charge at the club.
Arsenal are looking to assemble a team capable of at least breaking back into the top four next season after the north London side ended up in sixth place in the table last term and missed out on Champions League qualification.
The Gunners have not lifted the Premier League trophy since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign under Arsene Wenger at Highbury.
