Sokratis Papastathopoulos reveals his delight at being officially confirmed as an Arsenal player on Monday
Sokratis Papastathopoulos could not hide his delight after being officially confirmed as Arsenal’s third signing of the summer on Monday.
The 30-year-old Greek defender’s move to the north London club was confirmed after weeks of speculation linking him with a move from Bayern Munich.
Papastathopoulos has signed a long-term contract with the Gunners and joins from Dortmund for an undisclosed fee as Unai Emery continues to revamp his squad ahead of his first season in charge of the Gunners.
The defender will be hoping to shore up the Arsenal rearguard, which has attracted plenty of criticism in recent seasons.
And the player himself has revealed his delight at finally putting pen to paper and being confirmed as an Arsenal player this week.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website, Papastathopoulos said: “I feel very good.
“It’s my first day here, everything is special. It’s a beautiful moment and I’m very happy that I will be here for the next years.”
Papastathopoulos becomes Arsenal’s third signing of the summer after goalkeeper Bernd Leno and defender Stephan Lichtsteiner.
The north London side will be looking to at least break back into the top four next season after they finished in sixth place and without a trophy in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge of the Gunners last term.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2004.
