Arsenal have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Andre Gomes after the midfielder was left out of a pre-season trip with FC Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet Sport, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that Gomes has not been included in the squad which travelled to north America for the Spanish side’s pre-season tour.

The same story says that Gomes is now close to confirming his exit from FC Barcelona as he seeks a transfer away from the Spanish club this summer.

The article claims that both Arsenal and Juventus are keen on signing the 24-year-old this summer as they look to bolster their squads ahead of next season.

According to the same report, FC Barcelona value Gomes at around £17.6m (€20m) – but neither Arsenal nor Juventus are willing to pay that much, and a deal for a fee of around £15.9m (€18m) is more likely.

It is also reported that Gomes will only be allowed to leave FC Barcelona on a permanent deal this summer.

Arsenal have already been busy in the summer transfer window since Unai Emery’s appointment at The Emirates, with the Gunners having brought in five new players ahead of next season.
