Arsenal star Mesut Ozil breaks silence after Germany embarrassment

Mesut Ozil takes to social media to break his silence about Germany's disappointing World Cup exit

Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to break his silence in the wake of Germany’s disappointing World Cup exit.

The holders were knocked out in the group stage after finishing bottom of their group and suffering defeats by both Mexico and South Korea.

Germany had sealed a dramatic 2-1 win over Sweden to keep their hopes alive but their 2-0 loss to South Korea ended their tournament.

It was an embarrassing exit for the holders, who must now reflect on their poor performances over the summer months.

And Ozil has taken to Instagram to admit that he is going to need some time to get over the disappointment.

Ozil shared the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote the caption: “Having to leave the World Cup already after the group stage hurts so much.

“We just weren’t good enough. I’ll need some time to get over it.”

The playmaker will now gradually turn his attentions back towards domestic affairs and his first season under new Arsenal boss Unai Emery next term.

Ozil has been widely criticised for his below-par performances recently, with the 29-year-old having been handed a new lucrative Arsenal contract at the turn of the year.

Arsenal will be looking to at least break back into the top four next season after they finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
