Ray Parlour urges Unai Emery to complete key Arsenal transfer business
The Arsenal legend wants to see Aaron Ramsey's future sorted at the north London side
Ray Parlour says it is vital that Arsenal sort out Aaron Ramsey’s future.
The Wales international has less than 12 months to run on his current contract which will end at the end of the 2018-19 season.
Arsenal will be loathe to lose another player on the cheap after Alexis Sanchez moved to Manchester United last January.
The Gunners have appointed Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor following a sixth-placed finish last term.
Arsenal missed out on a Champions League spot for the second successive season to force the Gunners board to make a change.
Switzerland international Granit Xhaka has already committed to a long-term contract in the current transfer window.
The former Gunners star is desperate to see Ramsey commit his future to the north London club this summer.
“It’s very important that Arsenal keep Aaron Ramsey, especially after already losing Jack Wilshere this summer,” Parlour told bWIN.
“Arsenal need British players at the club after losing the likes of Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain in recent times.
“Ramsey would start every week and he’s well suited to a deeper midfield role next to Torreira, who can provide the platform for Ramsey to join attacks late in a similar style to Frank Lampard. Ramsey has good composure in front of goal and has a habit of performing in big games.”
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.
The north London outfit have also brought on Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
Lucas Torreira became the fourth addition at The Emirates last week before Lorient teenager Matteo Guendouzi finalised a move.
