Arsenal open talks with 24-year-old FC Barcelona star over summer move – report
Arsenal want to sign FC Barcelona star Andre Gomes but face competition from Tottenham, according to a report
Arsenal have opened negotiations with FC Barcelona star Andre Gomes over a potential move to the north London side this summer, according to a report in France.
The Daily Mirror quotes an unnamed report in France that suggests the Gunners are hoping to rescue Gomes from FC Barcelona after a difficult season at Camp Nou for the midfielder.
The same article states that Portugal international is looking to leave the La Liga winners after he struggled to hold down a starting spot under manager Ernesto Valverde.
According to the same story, Arsenal are facing competition from their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Gomes’ signature as Unai Emery looks to complete his sixth summer transfer deal.
The Daily Mirror adds that Gomes is likely to attempt to secure a move in the coming weeks after FC Barcelona left the Portuguese midfielder out of their squad for their pre-season tour.
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.
The north London outfit have also brought on Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
Lucas Torreira became the fourth addition at The Emirates last week before Arsenal signed France teenager Matteo Guendouzi.
