Arsenal are interested in a potential deal to sign Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, according to reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners appointed Spanish head coach Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s replacement at the end of the season.

Arsenal finished outside the Premier League’s top four in successive seasons to miss out on Champions League football again.

The north London side are looking to improve their defence after the Gunners conceded 54 times in 38 games last term.

Soyuncu is being linked with a move to Arsenal following his impressive performances in the Bundesliga over the past 12 months.

The 22-year-old has scored one goal in 30 appearances in all competitions in the 2017-18 season.

Sky Sports News reporter Sheth believes Soyuncu is a legitimate target for the north London side in the summer transfer window.

“There is talk of Caglar from Freiburg. There is an interest from Arsenal in that player,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.

Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.

The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.

The north London outfit have also brought on Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.
