Lucas Torreira’s father has all but confirmed that the midfielder will be signing for Arsenal from Sampdoria this summer.

The Uruguay international has been strongly linked with a move to The Emirates this summer but the transfer has not gone through as he continues to represent his country at the World Cup in Russia.

The 22-year-old is believed to be one of Unai Emery’s top targets this summer as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of his first campaign in charge.

However, despite all of the speculation, the transfer is yet to be confirmed.

Now though, the player’s father has confirmed that the Gunners are indeed on the brink of being able to conclude a deal to sign Torreira this summer.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Torreira’s father said: “It is as good as a fact that Lucas will join Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal confirmed their third signing of the summer earlier this week when they wrapped up a deal to bring Sokratis Papastathopoulos to The Emirates from Borussia Dortmund.

The north London side have also signed defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper Bernd Leno this summer as Emery prepares for his first campaign in charge at the Emirates after he was appointed as Arsene Wenger’s permanent successor.
