Reporter claims Arsenal will find deal to sign 23-year-old ‘appealing’
Sky Sports New reporter Dharmesh Sheth is reporting that Arsenal will be very interested in a deal to sign Gelson Martins
Arsenal will find a deal for Gelson Martins very appealing in the summer transfer window, according to reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Portugal international has been linked with a host of different clubs in the summer transfer market.
Martins is available to sign on a free transfer this summer despite being an exciting talent after he ended his contract with Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese side are in turmoil and Martins is one of four players who has moved to terminate their deals due to just cause.
The 23-year-old would have commanded a huge transfer fee considering his status as one of Sporting Lisbon’s best players.
Martins netted 13 times in 52 games in all competitions last season to attract interest from Arsenal and some other clubs.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth believes the Gunners are interested in a deal to sign Martins given his transfer fee will be waived after his Sporting Lisbon exit.
“I don’t think Arsenal will be too concerned about the turmoil,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast. “It is an appealing one for Arsenal. But it is appealing for a lot of clubs.”
Arsenal have signed Switzerland veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus earlier this summer.
The Gunners have also added Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal to provide Petr Cech and David Ospina.
Arsenal have also snapped up Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos to bolster their defence.
