The Gunners have turned to Unai Emery to improve their fortunes following a disappointing sixth-placed finish last term culminated in Arsene Wenger’s dismissal.
The new Arsenal manager has wasted no time bolstering the Gunners squad following the addition of five new players in the current transfer window.
Emery has improved his defensive options with the signings of Juventus veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner and Borussia Dortmund centre-half Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Spanish head coach has also signed Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno to provide Petr Cech and David Ospina with competition for a starting spot.
Arsenal conceded 54 times in 38 games in the Premier League last term as centre-halves Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny and Calum Chambers struggled for consistency.
Asked to name his dream Arsenal signing, Gunners legend Parlour suggested that Chiellini would be a great addition to the north London side.
“I think Arsenal still need to improve their defence, even after signing Sokratis and Lichtsteiner,” Parlour told bWIN.
“They left themselves open far too often last season and it was their away form that cost them. The club needs an old school leader who will put their body on the line and demand the best from his team-mates. [Giorgio] Chiellini would be the dream defender, though he’s getting on a bit.”
Arsenal lost 2-1 to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals to end their hopes of winning a first European title under Wenger in his final season in charge.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
