Unai Emery told reported Arsenal target can get best out of Granit Xhaka
Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge believes Lucas Torreira would bring out the best in Arsenal star Granit Xhaka
Lucas Torreira could free up Granit Xhaka to play in his best position for Arsenal, according to Michael Bridge.
The Gunners have been linked with a move to sign Torreira from Serie A giants Sampdoria in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are rumoured to be prepared to spend £30m on the Uruguay international to bolster their options in the middle of the park.
The north London side handed Xhaka a new and improved contract earlier this month to signal their intent to stick with the Swiss star.
Xhaka has struggled to impress in a holding role in the Gunners team since his £33m move to Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.
However, new Arsenal manager Unai Emery has started that Xhaka is a big part of his plans for the Gunners in the coming seasons.
Sky Sports News reporter Bridge believes Torreira’s potential arrival could help to bring out the best in Xhaka.
“He hasn’t had a great two seasons,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast. “They have rewarded him with a new contract.
“People say he isn’t in his proper position. The potential signing of Torreira who is a holding midfielder who could allow Xhaka to push forward.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004 but the Gunners haven’t come close to repeating that feat over the past 18 seasons.
The Gunners have signed Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bayer Leverusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno this summer.
