Ian Wright reacts to new Arsenal signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos
The Arsenal legend welcomes the addition to Sokratis Paspatathopoulos to the Gunners squad
Ian Wright has endorsed new Arsenal signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos after the Greek defender became their third summer signing on Monday evening.
The Gunners completed a deal to sign the Greece international from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on Monday evening.
Sokratis will be hoping to improve the Arsenal defence following their disastrous performances throughout the 2017-18 season.
New Arsenal boss Unai Emery has already signed experienced Juventus defender Stephan Lichtstener in a free transfer this summer to provide Hector Bellerin with competition for a starting spot.
The Gunners have also added Germany international Bernd Leno to their squad in a £20m deal from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen.
Former Arsenal striker Wright welcomed the addition of Sokratis and praised the Gunners for getting their summer deals over the line early in the current transfer window.
Wright wrote on Twitter: “Another good piece of business by the club. Getting things done early in the window has been a challenge in the past. You can’t under estimate how much it helps to already have friends at a club👍🏾 #SOKRATIS”
Arsenal signed former Borussia Dortmund duo Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window to improve the Gunners’ attack.
The north London side finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive season.
Arsenal lost 3-0 to Premier League champions Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley last term.
