Unai Emery told new Arsenal signing best since Sergio Busquets
Sky Sport News reporter Adam Bates reveals what Lucas Torreira's former coach said about the new Arsenal signing
Lucas Torreira is the best tactical midfielder since Sergio Busquets, according to the new Arsenal signing’s former coach.
The Gunners completed a reported £26m swoop to sign the Uruguay international from Serie A giants Sampdoria on Tuesday evening.
Torreira earned rave reviews for his performances at the World Cup following Uruguay’s run to the quarter-finals in Russia.
The 23-year-old was hailed for his performance in Uruguay’s 2-1 win over Portugal in the round of 16 after he marked Cristiano Ronaldo.
Torreira netted six times in 42 games for Pescara between 2014 and 2016 before the defensive midfielder moved to Sampdoria.
He got on the score sheet four times in 74 games in all competitions for the Italian club to attract interest from the Premier League.
Sky Sport News reporter Bates revealed that Torreira’s former assistant manager at Pescara, Marcello Donatelli, lavished praise on the new Arsenal signing
“He is tactically aware,” Bates told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“I spoke to Donatelli who was his assistant manager at Pescara when Torreira was there and won promotion.
“He said aside from Busquets, he is the best tactically aware midfielder in Europe, which is high praise.”
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a spot in the Champions League in successive seasons.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 and regressed in the final seasons of Arsene Wenger’s managment.
