Insider claims Arsenal were never close to deal to sign Man United star
Belgian reporter Kristof Terreur claims Arsenal were never close to a deal to sign Man United star Marouane Fellaini
Arsenal were never close to a deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, according to reporter Kristof Terreur.
The Belgium international is set to become a free agent next month after failing to agree to a new contract with the Red Devils.
The defensive midfielder has been a useful player under Portuguese head coach Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
However, Fellaini wants a significant upgrade on their £80,000 a week deal at Manchester United, which is proving problematic.
Arsenal have been linked with a sensational swoop to sign the Belgium international from Manchester United this summer.
A number of European clubs have also expressed an interest to sign the towering midfielder.
However, reports suggest that Fellaini is expected to sign a new two-year deal with Manchester United over the course of the weekend.
Belgian reporter Terreur believes Fellaini was never close to a move to Manchester United’s bitter rivals Arsenal.
“It was one meeting with the agent,” Terreur told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“They never offered anything on paper. It never went far. I checked with Arsenal but they weren’t interested. It was to put pressure on Man United.”
Manchester United have signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Red Devils have also recruited Diogo Dalot in a £17m deal from FC Porto.
