Arsenal have landed a coup after the Gunners saw off competition from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Matteo Guendouzi, reporter Dharmesh Sheth has revealed.

Arsenal completed a surprise swoop to sign the Lorient teenager in the summer transfer window with one eye on the future.

The 19-year-old broke into the Lorient first team almost two seasons ago to get some first-team experience.

The France Under-20 international has been linked with Premier League champions Manchester City and their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Sky Sports News reporter Sheth shed light on Arsenal’s pursuit of the talented French teenager in the current transfer market.

“It could be seen as quite a coup for Arsenal,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“Tottenham and Manchester City were known admirers of the player earlier this year.”

Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.

The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.

The north London outfit have also brought in Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.

And Lucas Torreira became the fourth addition at The Emirates when he signed for the north London side last week.
