Nigel Winterburn is hoping that new manager Unai Emery will oversee two or three further additions to the Arsenal squad.

The Gunners are facing a summer of change after Emery was appointed as Arsene Wenger’s replacement last month.

Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive season.

The north London side have already signed Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner from Serie A giants Juventus on a free transfer.

The Gunners spent £20m on Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno to provide Petr Cech and David Ospina with competition for a starting spot.

Arsenal have been linked with Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and Borussia Dortmund centre-half Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Former Gunners defender Winterburn admitted that he still wants to see Arsenal add two or three further additions to their squad this summer.

“I am excited about the signings so far but I am hoping two or three more come in,” Winterburn told the Transfer Talk podcast.

Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004.

The Gunners lost 3-0 to Premier League champions Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley.

Arsenal hav failed to qualify for the Champions League in the last two Premier League campaigns.
