Mesut Ozil’s role in new Arsenal signing revealed – report
New Arsenal signing Lucas Torreira will take over the No11 shirt previously worn by Mesut Ozil, according to a report
Mesut Ozil played a role in Lucas Torreira’s move to Arsenal after he vacated the number 11 shirt to allow the Uruguay international to take it, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Gunners midfielder is more likely to take the No11 shirt despite number three being available after Torreira wore that number at the World Cup.
The same article states that the Uruguay international is “primed” to take the No11 shirt after Ozil got his hands on prized number 10 following Jack Wilshere’s move to West Ham United.
The World Cup winner has been linked with the shirt number in the past but England international Wilshere was reluctant to give up the prestigious number as Ozil stuck it out with the No11 jersey.
Torreira completed his reported £26m move to Arsenal from Serie A side Sampdoria on Tuesday evening to become the fourth new arrival at the Emirates Stadium in the current transfer market.
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a spot in the Champions League in successive campaigns.
The Gunners lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley.
