The north London side have been strongly linked with a move to bring the 22-year-old Uruguay midfielder to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
It has been reported that the deal was being put on hold until after Uruguay’s involvement in this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
Now, after they were knocked out by France on Friday in the quarter-finals, BBC Sport reporter Ornstein has claimed that the Gunners should be able to complete a deal to sign Torreira next week.
The journalist also claims that Arsenal are unlikely to sign any more senior players this summer after Torreira, although there is still scope for Emery to bring in a new younger star this summer.
Ornstein wrote on Twitter: “Arsenal hope to complete Lucas Torreira deal next week. Agreed with Sampdoria & 22yo.
“Medical + signing imminent – depends if he flies straight from #WorldCup to London or via #URU Finishes 1st team recruitment but a younger player for future also likely before window shuts #AFC.”
Arsenal are looking to at least break back into the top four next season after they finished in sixth place in the Premier League last term and without a trophy.
The north London side have not won the Premier League since their unbeaten triumph back in 2004.
