Arsenal still need to sign a wide player under Unai Emery, according to Nigel Winterburn.

The Gunners finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a place in the Champions League for the second successive campaign.

The north London side have regressed over the past decade or so despite winning the FA Cup three times in the last five years.

Arsenal struggled defensively throughout the 2017-18 season after Arsenal conceded 54 times in 38 games in the Premier League.

The Gunners have already signed Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the summer transfer window so far.

Emery has also been linked with a move to sign Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Former Gunners defender Winterburn believes Arsenal need to sign another wide player in the current transfer market.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Arsenal side a wide player on the left or right,” Winterburn told the Transfer Talk podcast.

Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004, while the Gunners haven’t qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010.

The Gunners are set for a season of transition after Arsene Wenger stood down following 22 seasons in charge of the north London side.
