Gianfranco Zola sends message to Chelsea FC supporters about Maurizio Sarri
Chelsea FC legend Gianfranco Zola asks the Blues supporters to be patient with new manager Maurizio Sarri
Gianfranco Zola has urged Chelsea FC supporters to be patient with new manager Maurizio Sarri.
The Blues appointed the controversial Italian head coach as Antonio Conte’s replacement earlier this month.
The new Chelsea FC manager has made the shrewd move to recruit Zola as his second in command.
The former Italy international remains a favourite amongst Blues supporters and should buy Sarri some extra time to win over the Stamford Bridge crowd.
The ex-Napoli boss has already signed Italy international Jorginho in a £57m deal after seeing off competition from Premier League champions Manchester City.
Sarri will be tasked with guiding Chelsea FC back into the top four following their disappointing fifth-placed finish last term.
Chelsea FC assistant manager Zola, who won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, two FA Cups, the League Cup, and the Community Shield, asked the Chelsea FC supporters to be patient.
“I think it can be a very good marriage,” Zola is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. “Maurizio can give the club exactly what it is looking for.
“As long as the people at the club supports the club, have a little bit of patience with him I’m sure they will get what they are expecting,” said Zola.
“I like the way his teams play football. They are very organised, very good defensively but also play very good football. I’ve always liked coaches that promote this type of football.”
Zola was voted Chelsea FC’s greatest-ever player in 2003 before the Roman Abramovich era saw an influx of world class players.
However, the retired Italy international remains one of the best footballers to have donned the Chelsea FC shirt.
Chelsea FC won the FA Cup last season thanks to a 1-0 win over Manchester United.
