Chelsea FC told not to worry about losing key man to Real Madrid
Dean Ashton explains why Chelsea FC shouldn't be worried about losing Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid
Chelsea FC shouldn’t be worried about losing Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid this summer, according to Dean Ashton.
The Belgian goalkeeper has been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer and Real Madrid has been touted as a possible destination for the shot-stopper.
Courtois’s current contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire at the end of next season and that means that Chelsea FC could end up losing him on a free transfer next year.
Real Madrid are believed to be the front-runners to secure the Belgium international’s signature this summer because some of his family currently live in the Spanish capital.
However, Ashton feels that the Blues shouldn’t be worried about Courtois leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, as there are plenty of options out there to replace him.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Ashton said: “I think if you can bring Alisson in, I wouldn’t be worried.
“I think Courtois is a great goalkeeper, but at the moment I see that there is enough quality goalkeepers out there to replace Courtois.”
Chelsea FC completed their first signing of the summer over the weekend when they wrapped up a deal to bring Jorginho to Stamford Bridge following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as their new manager.
The west London side finished in fifth place in the table last season and missed out on Champions League qualification for next term.
