Craig Burley urges Chelsea FC to make this signing
Craig Burley believes that Chelsea FC need to sign a goalkeeper dominant in the air this summer
Craig Burley believes that Chelsea FC need to sign a goalkeeper who is dominant in the air if they lose Thibaut Courtois this summer.
The Belgian shot-stopper’s situation at Stamford Bridge has been a constant source of speculation this summer as his current contract with the Blues is due to expire next year.
Courtois has so far not indicated whether he will be signing a new deal with the Blues or whether he will look for a move away this summer, but he has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks.
Chelsea FC are inevitably being linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer amid the speculation about Courtois’ future at the west London club.
And Burley believes that the Blues should move to bring in a new shot-stopper who is able to dominate his area should Courtois leave the club this summer.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN FC, Burley said: “They need someone who is very strong on crosses and coming out. Courtois is very dominant coming out. It isn’t a strength of [Kasper] Schmeichel.
“He is a good shot stopper. Chelsea need a goalkeeper who is good at shot stopping and coming out.”
Chelsea FC have so far only made one new signing this summer after having brought in midfielder Jorginho from Napoli.
The Blues are currently gearing up for their first season under Maurizio Sarri following his appointment as Antonio Conte’s successor earlier this month.
