Marcos Alonso has admitted that Chelsea FC must step their game up ahead of next season.

The Blues endured a disappointing campaign last season as Antonio Conte’s men ended up in fifth place in the Premier League table and missed out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

The west London side did manage to lift a trophy by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley, but the Blues still fell way short of expectations in the Premier League and Champions League.

Chelsea FC’s players reported back to Cobham to begin pre-season training at the weekend as they look to bounce back from their disappointing campaign last term.

And Chelsea FC full-back Alonso has admitted that the west London side must improve significantly ahead of next term.

Speaking to Chelsea FC’s website, Alonso said: “Now we want to get back to the top level in the league after a not very good year, and pre-season is an important stage of that.”

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club but they struggled to find consistent form last term as they slumped to a fifth placed finish and dropped out of the top four.

The west London side will be looking to challenge for the Premier League at the very least next season.
