Maurizio Sarri can build his Chelsea FC defence around Daniele Rugani, Nick Wright has claimed.

The Italian head coach took over the reins of the west London side from Serie A runners up Napoli last week.

Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.

The Blues have only managed to complete one signing in the summer transfer window so far.

The west London outfit managed to see off competition from Premier League champions Manchester City in Jorginho.

The Italian midfielder completed a £57m switch to Chelsea FC and his compatriot Rugani could soon be on the move, too.

Sky Sports News reporter Wright believes Sarri could build his defence around Rugani in the near future.

“Sarri knows him well,” Wright told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“He played under Sarri at Empoli and they won promotion together. He can build his defence around him. You can see why he wants him. “

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title in two of the past four seasons under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The Blues were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last term.
