Journalist rates reports Chelsea FC want 30-year-old Serie A star
Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge reacts to reports Chelsea FC want to sign Gonzalo Higuain
Chelsea FC’s interest in Gonzalo Higuain is plausible given Maurizio Sarri’s past working relationship with the Argentina striker, according to Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge.
The South American has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League this summer following Sarri’s appointment as Antonio Conte’s replacement at Stamford Bridge.
Higuain is facing increased competition for a starting spot following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in a £100m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid earlier this month.
The Argentina international has won successive Serie A titles with Juventus after scoring 40 times in 73 games in the Italian top flight.
Sarri, though, managed to get the best out of Higuain after the 30-year-old produced career best figures of 36 goals in 35 Serie A games during the 2015-16 season at Napoli.
Sky Sports News reporter Bridge isn’t surprised to see Sarri linked with a move to sign Higuain in the summer transfer window.
“Higuain knows Sarri really well,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast. “It would make sense.”
Higuain has won three La Liga titles, Serie A twice, the Copa del Rey and three Coppa Italia crowns during a decorated career.
The South American netted 121 goals in 264 appearances for Real Madrid before his move to Napoli in 2013.
Sarri has only signed Italy international Jorginho and England veteran Rob Green in the summer transfer window so far.
