Graham Hunter explains why Real Madrid are desperate to sign Thibaut Courtois
La Liga expert Graham Hunter sheds light on why Real Madrid want to sign Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois
Real Madrid want to sign Chelsea FC star Thibaut Courtois ahead of Alisson Becker this summer, according to Graham Hunter.
The Belgium international has been regularly linked with a move to the Champions League winners over the past few seasons.
Courtois moved to Chelsea FC from Belgian side Genk in the 2011 summer transfer window before loaning the goalkeeper out to Atletico Madrid.
He proved a big hit during three seasons at los Rojiblancos, winning the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey and reaching a Champions League final.
Courtois returned to Stamford Bridge in 2014 and usurped Petr Cech as Chelsea FC’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Belgian shot stopper has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup during the summer transfer window so far.
La Liga expert Hunter has claimed that Courtois’ ties to Atletico make him a more attractive proposition to Real Madrid.
“It is a fact that every Madrid president loves the idea of pinching an Atletico player,” Hunter told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“Courtois was a star for Atleti.”
Chelsea FC won the FA Cup last season thanks to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final at Wembley thanks to Hazard’s winner from the spot.
The Blues sacked Antonio Conte last week before Maurizio Sarri was appointed as his long-term successor at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side have also signed Italian midfielder Jorginho in a £57m deal from Napoli.
