Dimitar Berbatov sends direct warning to Man United about Anthony Martial
The Manchester United legend urges the Red Devils to keep France star Anthony Martial
Dimitar Berbatov has warned Manchester United not to sell Anthony Martial this summer.
The Red Devils forward has been linked with a summer move after the France international struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Manchester United team.
Martial has been linked with a move to their Premier League rivals Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur over the past few months to kick start his stalling Premier League career.
The 22-year-old has also been attracting interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move to sign Martial.
Former Manchester United striker Berbatov, who played alongside Martial at Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, believes the Red Devils would be foolish to sell the France star.
“Anthony Martial needs to stay at Old Trafford,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“We used to play at Monaco together so I know how he plays.
“The board and the coach need to get together; he’s not even close to reaching his full potential and United is the best for him.
“He needs to be patient, wait for his chance to play because he’s an unbelievable footballer.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season to secure a spot in the Champions League for the second successive season.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson led Manchester United to his 13th and final top flight crown.
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season following Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
