Liverpool FC face competition to sign 26-year-old World Cup star – report
Liverpool FC are interested in a deal to sign Xherdan Shaqiri but face competition from Lazio, according to a report
Liverpool FC are facing competition from Serie A giants Lazio in the race to sign Xherdan Shaqiri, according to a report in Italy.
Italian website Calcio Mercato, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the Rome outfit have entered the race to secure Shaqiri’s signature this summer.
The same article states that Liverpool FC have already made a move to sign the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who is thought to have a contract release clause in the region of £13m.
According to the same story, the Reds could have an advantage over Lazio given the Serie A side could struggle to match the Switzerland international’s wage demands.
Liverpool FC are thought to be looking at Shaqiri as a potential alternative to France international Nabil Fekir in the summer transfer window.
Shaqiri scored eight goals in 36 games in the Premier League last term but the Swiss star couldn’t prevent the Potters from suffering relegation.
Stoke signed the 26-year-old in a £12m deal from Serie A side Inter Milan in 2015 following a disappointing spell in the Italian top flight.
Liverpool FC have signed Brazil international Fabinho and RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita in the summer transfer window so far.
