Liverpool FC must launch a serious Premier League title challenge next season, according to Craig Burley.

The Reds ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table under Jurgen Klopp last term as they also reached the Champions League final but lost to Real Madrid.

Liverpool FC are still looking to win their first major trophy under Klopp since his appointment in 2015 and the Reds will be aiming to be among the contenders for the title next term.

The Merseyside outfit have spent big this summer on bringing in Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker in the transfer window.

And Burley feels that Liverpool FC now need to back up their promise by challenging for the Premier League title next season.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN FC, Burley said: “It is a difficult one. They’ve never won the Premier League in the Premier League era.

“It was a surprise to get the Champions League final. If Man City are frontrunners, Liverpool and Man United have to be pushing them closely.

“A successful season isn’t sitting their battling for second or third place with Man City 20 points ahead. It would show the owners that they are going in the right direction.”

Liverpool FC will be aiming to be one of the teams challenging Manchester City for the title next term.

The Reds reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in the showpiece in Kiev.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool FC could end up bringing in any more reinforcements this summer or not.
