New Liverpool FC signing opens up about Man United reports
Fabinho insists that he never came close to signing for Man United
Fabinho has insisted that he was never close to signing for Manchester United before joining Liverpool FC this summer.
The Brazilian midfielder became the Reds’ first signing of the summer at the start of the transfer window as Jurgen Klopp moved quickly to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
Fabinho joined Liverpool FC this summer after having been strongly touted as a possible target for Manchester United in the past.
The former Monaco midfielder had been linked with a move to the Premier League for months but it was Liverpool FC who ended up winning the race for his signature.
Now, the midfielder himself has revealed that despite the speculation, there was no official offer from Manchester United to sign him before he moved to Anfield.
Speaking in an interview with FourFourTwo, Fabinho said: “I was never close to signing for Manchester United, no.
“I heard things said about it, but the truth is it was never a strong possibility.
“I won’t deny there were a few conversations about my situation with Monaco, but there was never an official offer from United.”
The midfielder reported to Melwood this week as he began his pre-season preparations with the Reds.
He will be hoping to help Jurgen Klopp’s men to challenge for the Premier League title next season after they finished in fourth place and without a trophy last term.
Liverpool FC are still aiming to win their first trophy under Klopp since his appointment back in October 2015.
