Steven Gerrard has a clear message for Liverpool FC star Loris Karius
Steven Gerrard opens up about Loris Karius' situation at Liverpool FC
Steven Gerrard has defended Loris Karius and is backing the Liverpool FC goalkeeper to bounce back from his Champions League final nightmare next season.
The 24-year-old German goalkeeper was badly at fault for two of Liverpool FC’s conceded goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League final back in May.
His poor performance in the key game has inevitably led to speculation suggesting that Liverpool FC will look to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
However, the Reds are yet to bring in a new shot-stopper, and Klopp launched a passionate defence of Karius last week, suggesting that he may be willing to stand by the German.
Now, Liverpool FC legend Gerrard has insisted that it is completely up to Klopp whether the Reds boss feels that Karius has the mental strength needed to be able to bounce back from his Champions League final heartache or noth.
Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Star, Gerrard said: “Karius, to be fair to him, was getting stronger and stronger as the season when on.
“I think the key is does Jurgen think he has the mental strength to bounce back?
“The easy thing to do is put a cross through his name and bin him but you have to remember he took Liverpool to the Champions League final.
“He is young so we don’t want to bin a good goalkeeper because he does have the potential to be very good.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to try and build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title next term.
