Reporter claims Jurgen Klopp has made big Liverpool FC transfer decision
Jurgen Klopp has opted to stick with Loris Karius as Liverpool FC's number one, says David Maddock
Jurgen Klopp has decided to back Loris Karius as Liverpool FC’s long-term number one rather than look for a new goalkeeper this summer, according to reporter David Maddock.
The German goalkeeper’s situation has been a source of uncertainty this summer after the 24-year-old’s Champions League final nightmare.
The Reds have been linked with moves for a number of new shot-stoppers in the summer transfer window, including Jan Oblak and Alisson.
However, they have not been able to conclude a deal for a new goalkeeper, and Daily Mirror reporter Maddock is now claiming that the Reds have opted to stick with Karius at the request of their manager.
Maddock wrote on Twitter: “Klopp knows fans will find it tough to take, but believes Karius was excellent in months leading up to CL final – and performed well against RM until concussion.
“Prepared to give second chance. As with van Dijk, ready to be patient to get right man.”
Liverpool FC have completed one new signing this summer after having tied up a deal to bring Fabinho to Anfield from Monaco.
The Reds have also welcomed Naby Keita to Melwood for pre-season training this week after his move from RB Leipzig went through this month.
Klopp will be eager to make a number of new additions to his squad this summer as he looks to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League next season.
The Reds are still looking to win their first trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in 2015.
