Jurgen Klopp has played down the chances of Liverpool FC signing a new defender in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have been linked with a whole host of players this summer as they look to try and build a squad that can win the title next season.

Liverpool FC have been relatively busy in the summer transfer window so far, with the Reds having brought in Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker ahead of the new campaign.

With the transfer window set to close on 9 August, the Reds are still being linked with a number of players ahead of the new campaign.

However, although Klopp insisted that he is not on the lookout for a new defender this summer, the Liverpool FC boss did admit that the situation could change ahead of next season.

Asked if he will look to sign a new defender this summer, Klopp told a news conference on Saturday: “This summer? No, I am happy with our players, to be honest, so I don’t see the need.

“When you see Joe Gomez playing in that role tonight as a central defender, he combines a lot of things you don’t find in the transfer market, to be honest.

“I can’t see in the moment the need, but there are 12 days to go and a lot of things can happen.

“You ask me now and I say no, but maybe if you ask me tomorrow I will say something different.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season and reached the Champions League final.

The Reds are still looking for their first major trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in October 2015.
