New Liverpool FC signing sends message to fans about Klopp
Xherdan Shaqiri admits his delight at linking up with Jurgen Klopp following his move to Liverpool FC
Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted his delight at the prospect of working under Jurgen Klopp following his move to Liverpool FC from Stoke City last week.
The 26-year-old completed his move to Anfield on Friday night as the Reds agreed a deal to bring the Swiss attacker to the Merseyside outfit from Stoke following their relegation from the Premier League last term.
Shaqiri will add another option up front for the Reds and he will presumably used as back up to the first choice front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Now, the attacker himself has revealed that he is a keen admirer of Klopp from the German coach’s time in charge of Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking in an interview with Liverpool FC’s website, Shaqiri said: “I know the coach from Germany, when he was at Dortmund.
“We played against each other – me with Bayern Munich – and they were always big games.
“That was a big point for me to come here, because of the coach. I love his football, how he plays and how he manages a team. I was always an admirer of his so I’m happy to reunite with him.”
Liverpool FC will be looking to challenge for the Premier League title next season as they bid to try and win their first trophy under new manager Klopp.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season and reached the Champions League final, before they were beaten by Real Madrid in Kiev back in May.
Liverpool FC are still searching for their first major trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in 2015.
