Southampton are leading Newcastle United and Crystal Palace in the race to sign Danny Ings from Liverpool FC this summer, according to reports in the British media.

Website football.london is reporting that the Saints are showing a strong interest in signing the English forward this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.

The same story says that Ings is widely expected to leave Liverpool FC this summer and Southampton are currently leading the charge for his signature.

According to the same article, Liverpool FC are “reluctant” to let Ings leave this summer but they understand that his desire to move on to a club for regular first-team playing time.

Southampton are currently believed to be the favourites to land the 25-year-old striker this summer, ahead of Premier League rivals Newcastle and Palace.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC have so far only made one new signing this summer after having tied up a deal for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.

The Reds are thought to still be on the lookout for a number of new recruits as they look to try and assemble a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
