Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool FC world record signing Alisson Becker was cheaper than Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The Merseyside outfit signed Alisson in a world record fee for a goalkeeper after Liverpool FC paid £67m fee for the AS Roma shot stopper.

The Reds tackled what has been a problem position over the past few seasons with the addition of the Brazil number one.

Liverpool FC were previously linked with a move to sign the Atletico goalkeeper if Alisson proved unattainable in the summer transfer window.

The Slovenia international has a £100m transfer release clause to warn off potential suitors in the Atletico number one.

Liverpool FC have made four signings in the summer transfer window to bolster their squad ahead of a potential title challenge next season.

Speaking to ESPN about Alisson’s world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper, Klopp defended Liverpool FC’s willingness to spend £67m on the Brazilian.

“Everybody thinks it’s a lot of money. It is a lot of money,” Klopp told ESPN. “But he could’ve left for crazy money.

“The clause for Oblak for example is €100m, so nice! And that’s it in this year where obviously a few things happen on the goalkeeper position.

“That’s part of the job, to try to bring the best players you can get.

“The goalkeeper market is different because it’s not each year that there is anybody available and stuff like that.

“We didn’t know exactly if Alisson is available or not, but from a specific moment we realized obviously he is available and that’s what the moment when we decided we want to go for him.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term after the Reds ensured their continued participation in the Champions League.

The Reds have also signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita and Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri.
