Jurgen Klopp told 40-year-old not the answer to Liverpool FC problem
Shaka Hislop doesn't believe Liverpool FC should sign Gianluigi Buffon this summer
Liverpool FC shouldn’t consider a late bid to sign Gianluigi Buffon, Shaka Hislop has claimed.
The Reds have been linked with a host of goalkeepers in the summer transfer window following Loris Karius’ poor showing in the Champions League final.
The German goalkeeper made two mistakes leading to goals as Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale helped Real Madrid ease to a 3-1 win against Liverpool FC.
The Merseyside haven’t had a truly world class goalkeeper since Spain international Pepe Reina, who was shipped out of the Anfield club under Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool FC have been linked with a potential move to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak this summer.
Buffon has emerged as something of a left field target for the 18-time English champions after the 40-year-old confirmed that he will leave Juventus.
However, former West Ham goalkeeper Hislop explained why Liverpool FC shouldn’t sign the veteran shot stopper.
“Any number of clubs would be happy to have Buffon,” Hislop told ESPN FC.
“Liverpool need a goalkeeper but not this 40-year-old Buffon is the answer for Liverpool.”
Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last month.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a spot in the Champions League in successive seasons.
