FC Barcelona are interested in a deal to sign Liverpool FC goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to a report
FC Barcelona have made a surprise move to sign Liverpool FC goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to a report in Spain.
Spanish media outlet Marca, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the La Liga champions are looking at a potential deal to sign the Belgium international.
The same article states that FC Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is keen to sign Mignolet to provide cover for Germany international Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
According to the same story, the Spanish champions are facing competition from Turkish side Besiktas to sign the 30-year-old goalkeeper.
Indeed, Liverpool FC were thought to be keen to use Mignolet as a makeweight to sign World Cup star Domagoj Vida from Besiktas to improve their options at centre-half.
The Reds spent a world record fee on Brazilian number one Alisson Becker to finally sign a top goalkeeper to improve what has been a problem position since Pepe Reina’s exit in 2013.
Alisson completed a £67m move to Liverpool FC despite previously being linked with a move to Real Madrid and Chelsea FC.
Liverpool FC have also signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita and Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window.
