Liverpool FC need to sign a centre-half to complement Virgil van Dijk, Daily Record reporter Ian McGarry.
The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a £75m club record deal from Southampton in the January transfer window to make Van Dijk the world’s most expensive defender.
Van Dijk improved the Liverpool FC defence and Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to reach the Champions League final thanks to knockout victories over FC Porto, Manchester City and AS Roma.
Liverpool FC made Alisson Becker the world’s most expensive goalkeeper after the Reds recruited the South American in a £67m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma.
However, question marks remain about Dejan Lovren given his inconsistent performances since a £20m move to Liverpool FC from Southampton despite helping Croatia to reach the Champions League final.
Daily Record reporter McGarry believes Liverpool FC are likely to look to sign a new centre-half to complement Van Dijk ahead of the new Premier League season.
“Liverpool should sign a new and better defender alongside Van Dijk,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.
Liverpool FC signed Brazil international Fabinho and Guinea star Naby Keita to improve their options in the middle of the park.
The Reds have also signed Shaqiri from Stoke City after the Potters were relegated to the Championship.
The Merseyside outfit spent a world record fee for a goalkeeper on Alisson Becker to sign the Brazilian in a £75m deal.
