Jurgen Klopp raves about new Liverpool FC signing
The Liverpool FC manager can't contain his delight to finally add Naby Keita to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season
Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight that Liverpool FC have finally added Naby Keita to their squad this summer.
The Guinea international linked up with his new Reds team-mates last week to start their pre-season campaign ahead of the new Premier League season.
Liverpool FC attempted to sign Keita last summer but RB Leipzig were unwilling to lose the dynamic midfielder ahead of their first season in the Champions League.
The 18-time English champions were able to agree to a £48m fee with the German side to sign Keita at the end of the 2017-18 term.
Keita has been given the famous No8 as the African star becomes the first player to wear the shirt number since iconic captain Steven Gerrard left in 2015.
Klopp shed light on why the Liverpool FC manager was desperate to sign the Guinea international to bolster his options in the middle of the park.
“I would really be a little bit too long [talking about] why I like him,” Klopp told his post-match media conference.
“He was two years ago, together with maybe Thiago Alcantara of Bayern, for sure the best player in the Bundesliga by far.
“It was unbelievable how he played and then we wanted to get him in, but Leipzig didn’t think that was the best idea in the world so they kept him. And then last season was good but not as good as the year before, but it was still good.
“He is young, he is full of football skills, very stable, very good in small spaces, endurance-wise fantastic, quick, good finishes, good runs in the box. So that’s a package that’s really interesting and that’s why we thought we should take him.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to continue their participation in the Champions League under Klopp.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last season following goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.
